Self Care
This is your friendly reminder to take care of yourself, too! We understand how easy it is to become stressed out or overwhelmed during the holiday rush. Do something nice for yourself and rekindle that holiday joy!
Holiday Crowds
Your child might handle crowds and noise, but for a limited amount of time. Be sure to have a ‘Plan B’ when they start to feel overwhelmed, like a quiet place to retreat. Remember, it’s okay to simply leave.

Share their preferences
Share your child’s preferences with extended family; like foods, games, activities as well as how well they tolerate bigger groups or length of stay. All of these can really help extended family members understand why you might leave right after dinner or prefer to stay in a hotel.
Family visits
Family visits during the holidays may become overwhelming for your kiddo – and that’s okay! Whether you are staying overnight or just a day trip, we recommend bringing your own necessities! It’s best to be prepared with the items that will maintain your child’s comfort zone such as food, blanket and toys.
Wish lists
Want to help family members with gift ideas for your kiddo? Offer up a wish list that can point them in the right direction of something your child is sure to love.

Meal Expectations
Gobble ‘til you wobble? Perhaps not for some of us. A Thanksgiving meal for your kiddo may look exactly like their normal routine meal preferences… and that’s okay! It’s important to remind ourselves that not everyone is going to enjoy all of the new foods, sounds and smells that come with family holidays. Any way that we celebrate, let us be thankful.

Have the best Trick-or-Treat ever!
- Practice wearing the costume at home. This allows them to get comfortable wearing it and you’ll have time to make any necessary adjustments.
- Talk about what to expect before Halloween so your child has time to get used to the plan.
- Map out your route for a visual.
- Practice trick or treating with friends and family!
- Keep trick or treating short and sweet. Know their limits.
- Not up for going door to door? Stay home and pass out candy.
